Decorative cable clutter

Endlessly searching for cable clutter solutions I am amazed at all the innovation out there in this area. It seems like everyone is rather frustrated with the messy look of all the cables we have to deal with these days. While I appreciate the idea above, trying to integrate cable clutter rather than hide it which is damn near impossible, I feel like once all the plugs are filled your cables will compete with the decorative scrolls of the extension cord. Plus add a few of those hideous cords with the external power brick and I just don’t know how appealing this will be. But I give props to all the industrial designers out there coming up with solutions for the cable clutter mess.

Slim and Simple Desk Lamp

If I had money to burn I would totally buy this lamp. At $480 I’d rather finally get an iPhone but this lamp is my dream and I didn’t even know it until I saw it today on Apartment Therapy. It’s called the “Talak Lamp” by Artemide and is available on the YLighting website. By the way, YLighting is an amazing resource for beautiful, modern lighting. The stem is polished steel and the base and lamp are a matte white, powder coated finish. It would pair wonderfully with my desk and furniture. I love the slim profile of this lamp. Hopefully other designers will take note and we’ll see something like this at a more reasonable (at least for me) price point.

The light rotates 360 degrees and it moves up and down the stem. Because of the length, it gives off a more even diffused light since it’s not coming from one bulb source like most lamps. And the site claims it’s eco-friendly as well. A bonus, if it is.

What lies beneath

My ultimate nemesis is cable clutter.  I’m determined to one day have a clean, modern, minimal looking home office setup but right now that’s not what’s happening at my desk.  I have many websites bookmarked in my browser of ideas and products galore but I still haven’t found a solution that works for all my needs yet, but I’ll get there.  Here’s a link to a Greenplug contest (which ends tomorrow!!!) where people can send in photos of the horrors under their desks.  Check it out!  The lucky winner gets to have lunch with green freaks Christopher Knight and Adrian Curry of “My Fair Brady” fame.
